Re: Summary of Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs
Oldcastle Architectural Products Group

Dear Mr. Cavanaugh;

Per our recent discussion, below is a summary of Oldcastle Architectural Products Group (APG) Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs:

  • APG operates 244 locations and is present in 42 states, and Quebec and Ontario, Canada.

  • Corporate Structure: Each plant has a local Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator, supported regionally by one of eight (8) EHS Coordinators; and nationally by one (1) EHS Director.

  • Environmental assessments are conducted prior to every acquisition, and all identified issues are addressed.

  • All manufacturing locations are subject to a detailed EHS internal audit annually.

  • APG invested $3.4 million in plant environmental improvement projects throughout the U.S. and Canada in 2008.

  • We manufacture products that are awarded points under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System®.

  • APG recycled over 225,000 tons of flyash, slag and other secondary materials into its products in 2008.

  • 30 locations recycle process water, and 7 locations collect and use rain water.

  • Our group sponsored 57 “Open Days” at manufacturing locations in 2008 to foster community partnership.

  • Plants conduct annual training to each employee on environmental issues such as: storm water, spill prevention, silica, hazardous materials handling, and related EHS topics.

  • We are transitioning into onboard computers on our transportation fleet to optimize compliance, energy use and costs.

  • We are an integral part of the Oldcastle Sustainability Task Group (OSTG) and, as members, have created an Oldcastle internal waste exchange network for use by the group.

If any further information or clarification is needed, please don’t hesitate to contact me at your convenience.

Sincerely,
Oldcastle APG
